According to some of the historians, the first king of Pontianak, Mr. Syarif Abdurrahman Alkadrie when opening the land to live in Pontianak could be disturbed by ghosts. Then the Sultan commands his troops expelled the ghosts by firing the gun to the side of the mainland. Pontianak in fact was a city that his legend had the ghost “kuntilanak”. Basically Pontianak words came from Buntinganak words . The “karbit” gun was made from big wood with a diameter 50-100 cm in a long manner 4-7 m. In the certain part the stick of wood was given a hole that was useful to put water and “karbit”, then after several times the gun was lit that will produce the loud booming voice.
