Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta province, Indonesia is concidered as one of the most active volcano in the world. When it erupted two years ago in 2006, villagers who live in the slope and near the mountain had to evacuate to save their lives. It had shown its wrath like many times before.

After no more erruption and the anger changed into a peaceful mountain, Merapi gave so much to the people who live around it. Sands and rocks are one of those gifts. Most of the people in Kali gendol and Kali woro, two villages in the slope of Merapi work as sand and rock miner. The sand and rock material in the sites are top quality since it is a product of lava.

The miners not only make money for every sand and rock they dig, they also contribute to the balance of the environment. The neverending flow of lava from Merapi creates a constant raw material resource for the people. If not mined the lava just kept coming and will create a huge pile of sand unused and burried the valley.

They are keeping a balance in their way, living a harmony by playing Sand, Mountain and Rock.
